Using Wireless Application Protocol (WAP), customers will be able to tap into the telstra.com site and send email, check news headlines or sports results. Eventually they will be
able to book holidays and shop online.
``It's obviously very important they're getting into WAP. That's going to be a big product next year,'' said a telecoms analyst who asked not to be named.
Telstra, the second largest Australian company with a market value of more than A$50 billion (US$32 billion), estimates that every second Australian could have a mobile phone by
the end of next year, from 37 percent at the moment.
