Portal Software joins the WAP Forum

CUPERTINO, Calif. -- Portal Software Inc. (NASDAQ: PRSF), a leading provider of business infrastructure software for Internet and next-generation communications services, today announced that it has joined the Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) Forum. The WAP Forum is an industry association comprising more than 245 members that has developed the de-facto world standard for wireless information and telephony services on digital mobile phones and other wireless terminals. The primary goal of the WAP Forum is to bring together companies from all segm ents of the wireless industry value chain to ensure product interoperability and growth of the wireless market.

"Multi-vendor product interoperability is essential for the growth of wireless Internet applications," said Scott Goldman, chief executive officer of the WAP Forum. "Portal share s this vision with the WAP Forum, and I am pleased that the company has joined the Forum in order to achieve this goal."

WAP is the de-facto worldwide standard for providing Internet communications and advanced telephony services on digital mobile phones, pagers, personal digital assistants and oth er wireless terminals. The charter of the WAP Forum is to bring together service providers, handset and infrastructure manufacturers, Internet content provider and application de velopers to ensure interoperability and growth of wireless Internet-based services.
