[A World-First as wapHQ.com Launches Internet Hosting Service for Wap-enabled Mobile Phones. ]

Knutsford, UK -- wapHQ.com, a division within industrial automation software specialist Visorgraph Ltd, has launched a specialised mobile internet hosting service to cater for application providers who are using the new generation of Wireless application protocol (Wap) enabled mobile phones to receive and transfer data over the Internet.

Wap is a protocol for the transmission of data to digital mobile phones that allows the user to see Internet content in special text format called WML (Wireless Markup Language). WML is used for creating pages used by a Wap-browser that is designed into the new mobile phones, and which interprets WML in the same way that a Web-browser in a PC interprets HTML.

However, Wap applications cannot be hosted on a conventional web server, but require the use of a specially configured Wap-server in which the MIME (Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions) types are changed to describe the content of the files sent from the server to the browser.

The new wapHQ.com hosting service that is launched today is believed to be among the first of its kind in the world and for an annual subscription of 100 can be used for hosting all types of services where graphics and text content are limited. Applications such as banking, news, e-mail, traffic information and e-commerce are obvious candidates for Wap.
