"LG Information and Communications (LGIC) is to export its wireless data network interworking system, STAREX-IWF, to Fujitsu of Japan.

"This marks the first time that a Korean company is supplying CDMA (code division multiple access) system to Japan, according to LGIC.

"STAREX-IWF, commercialized for the first time by LGIC in 1998, is connected to CDMA digital cellular and PCS (personal communications service) exchanges and wired network to allow data to be transmitted to wireless handsets.

"Fujitsu will deploy LGIC's wireless data network interworking equipment for CDMA WLL (wireless local loop) control stations in Columbia and Southeast Asian countries, according to LGIC.

"LGIC is contracted to supply the STAREX-IWF system to Fujitsu over the next five years. The initial shipment this year amounts to about 20 billion won, LGIC said.

"Meanwhile, the company is currently engaged in the development of the third generation wireless Internet data service system including IMT-2000 PSDN (public switched data network), AAA (authentications authorization accounting) and mobile Internet protocol home agent.
