[CDMA users in China expected to top 10 million this year according to the CDMA Development Group.]

Tokyo -- "The CDMA Development Group (CDG) said that due to the rapid increase in users of cdmaOne cellular phones in China, the number of subscribers is expected to surpass 10 million in 2000 and to exceed 40 million by 2003.

"The group promotes CDMA cellular-phone technology as well as CDMA-based services.

"This announcement was in response to a statement by China Unicom, the second-largest telecom operator in China, that its cdmaOne-based wireless network is expected to be completed soon.

"Also, Qualcomm Inc. of San Diego, which owns the license for CDMA technology, has already signed an agreement with China Unicom on the guidelines for the licensing of CDMA technology to Chinese manufacturers.
