Alameda, Calif. -- "Geoworks Corporation (Nasdaq: GWRX), a pioneer in wireless data communications services and technologies, today announced that Toshiba Corporation is the first to finalize a licensing agreement for Geoworks' patented flexible user interface (Flex UI) technology. Flex UI technology is an essential element of the Wireless Application Protocol (WAP), the emerging global standard for mobile communications. Geoworks has licensed its patented technology to Toshiba for use in a series of handset devices.

"Toshiba joined our licensing program very shortly after it was announced, demonstrating that Geoworks' licensing structure is well-received by one of the leaders in the wireless communications industry," said Don Ezzell, General Counsel of Geoworks Corporation. "Leveraging our technology, Toshiba can significantly advance the emerging market for WAP-enabled products and the realization of a single, open standard for mobile devices."
