Posted: 15-Mar-2000 [Source: Bloomberg]

[Mobile Internet is really going mobile according to Ford Motor Company and Sprint.]

By Greg Gardner, Detroit -- "Ford Motor Co. and Sprint PCS, the wireless-communications arm of Sprint Corp., will combine forces to offer wireless telephone and Internet services in vehicles next year, people familiar with the situation said.

"The service will be offered on some 2001 Lincolns and include wireless phones that can be removed from the vehicle, the people said. While both companies declined to comment on a possible linkup, Ford scheduled a briefing for tomorrow with a ``leading telecommunications company'' and Sprint PCS's president said his company will unveil an auto industry accord tomorrow. ``Tomorrow, I'll tell you all sorts of things,'' Sprint PCS President Andrew Sukawaty said at the Merrill Lynch & Co. telecommunications conference in New York.
