[TD Waterhouse announces WAP access to brokerage services.]

By Patrick Jenkins, London -- "TD Waterhouse, the online stockbroker, will next week become the first broker to give UK investors share prices, index data and live news via wireless application protocol (Wap), the new generation mobile phone.

"A full Wap trading service will follow, probably by the end of next month. Trades are likely to cost the same as internet transactions - $23.50 per deal for frequent traders.

"Analysts welcomed the news, but stressed the importance of being best, not first. "All the brokers will be doing it within a few months," said one. "It's a matter of who can do it so it works."

"The TD Waterhouse facility will be available via BT Cellnet's Genie Internet, the internet portal, using a Wap phone or palmtop computer.
