Wireless Internet technology used to monitor and protect Canadian food supply

Toronto -- "Thermo King of Toronto and its affiliated Canadian dealer network have joined forces with Mobility Trak to introduce a wireless communication system known as Thermo Trak.

"The Thermo Trak system transmits and reports data from refrigerated trailers using the Cellemetrysm Data Service Network. An Internet connection to the Network allows Thermo King and its customers to manage and collect reports on the temperature quality of refrigerated food products and pharmaceuticals while in transit anywhere in North America

"Thermo Trak was developed for transportation carriers who require real-time monitoring and alarm notification of their refrigerated loads. The system provides detailed information to ensure the temperature integrity of refrigerated products while in the mobile environment. The Thermo Trak device is an interface to reefers and the Cellemetry network allowing data to be accessed virtually anywhere at anytime through the Internet. In certain instances, the system is set to trigger an alarm via a pager or cell phone so that critical controls and fault codes are immediately responded to by the transport carrier or Thermo King Service personnel

"Lodwick Transport, Canadian National Railways, Erb Transport and other large Canadian trucking and inter-modal carriers have participated in the assessment and design of all aspects of this project since its conception. Through focus groups and exhaustive testing in 1998 and 1999, the system was defined and redefined to meet the changing needs of the customer. It was determined that enhanced data services were required for several conditions including: temperature audits, quality control, and temperature alarms of perishable loads. Mobility Trak provided lead expertise in the assessment and development of the system with Thermo King of Eastern Canada since 1997.

"The new system will be marketed as a joint venture being formed under the terms of an already signed memorandum of understanding between Mobility Trak and Thermo King of Toronto. The combined team will market and support the delivery of the Thermo Trak remote monitoring system through the existing dealer and customer channels.

Product optimization and customization for remote sensing and alarms along with information archiving will provide Thermo Trak users an affordable, out of the box wireless Internet solution. Commercial testing is scheduled for April with selected transportation carriers; thus continuing the efforts of our initial engineering and prototype phases, which presented real time Temperature, and GPS information at a recent Ontario Trucking Association Convention in November 1999.
