ZDNet to Expand Global Reach Through Wireless Devices
Posted: 30-Mar-2000 [Source: PRNewswire]

[ZDNet begins to form alliances in the wireless arena.]

San Francisco -- "ZDNet (NYSE: ZDZ - news), which operates the leading Web destination for people who want to buy, use and learn about technology, today announced agreements with three top providers of wireless services and technology, AnyDevice.com, Internet Telecom, and OmniSky. Part of an expansive wireless and broadband strategy dubbed ``ZDNet Everywhere,'' these strategic alliances extend ZDNet's global reach to the rapidly growing number of people using wireless devices to access the Internet.

"The number of US mobile Internet service subscribers is predicted to soar from 1.8 million to 4 million by the end of 2000, according to a March report from the Yankee Group. The report also forecasts that 1 billion mobile Internet access devices will be in use around the world by 2003. ZDNet's technology-focused content and services are uniquely positioned to deliver value to this rapidly expanding audience, catering to the needs of both the technology ``early adopters'' who are the first to use Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) devices, and the more mainstream technology-interested audience that will follow suit.

"``Our wireless team has been doing an amazing job enhancing our content for wireless delivery and establishing partnerships with the best technology and service providers,'' said Dan Rosensweig, president and CEO of ZDNet. ``Whether they're evaluating a technology purchase, actually purchasing a product at a store, or on the road accessing research data for an important meeting, we've opened a pipeline through which wireless users can access our news, product reviews, product/price comparisons, downloads, help and how-to guidance and other mission-critical content.''

"ZDNet's agreements with AnyDevice.com, OmniSky and Internet Telecom represent a significant expansion into the wireless arena. As a result, ZDNet's content, services and commerce opportunities will gain prominent placement to hundreds of thousands of wireless service users. ``This is only the beginning for us. We expect to announce other significant wireless deals, integrated information products, services and commerce capabilities within the next few months as part of our 'ZDNet Everywhere' initiative,'' Rosensweig added.
