[The WAP Forum has agreed that RSA RC5 encryption "should be supported by all WTLS clients and servers" for WTLS environments.
Bedford, Mass. -- "RSA Security Inc. (Nasdaq: RSAS - news) today announced that the WAP Forum has specified RSA Security's RC5(TM) encryption algorithm for its WTLS (Wireless Transport Level Security) specification. At this month's WAP Forum Developer's Symposium in Miami, Florida, the committee voted to include RSA Security's RC5 algorithm as an encryption technology for use in wireless clients and servers. RSA Security's RC5 algorithm is the only data encryption algorithm that is specified as ``should be supported by all WTLS clients and servers'' by the WAP Forum for WTLS environments.
"As part of a WTLS implementation, RSA Security's RC5 encryption is intended to provide the privacy, identification, verified message integrity and non-repudiation required for secure e-commerce transactions in wireless environments. The algorithm is designed for wireless applications, incorporating a lightweight and efficient protocol that conserves bandwidth, memory and processing power
``Security will be an essential factor as WAP evolves to become the global standard for wireless Internet access,'' said Scott Goldman, CEO of WAP Forum. ``We are delighted that RSA Security has joined WAP Forum in helping to develop a comprehensive security solution.''
``RSA Security is pleased that RC5(TM) technology will be an important element in providing critical wireless security,'' said Scott Schnell, senior vice president of marketing at RSA Security. ``RSA Security continues to provide crucial wireless technology and solutions to developers of WAP products to help them expand the market.''
