San Fransisco, Calif. -- Macromedia, Inc. (NASDAQ: MACR), the leading provider of solutions for compelling and effective Web sites, and Nokia (NYSE: NOK), a leader in mobile Internet technology, today announced public beta availability of the Nokia WML Studio for Macromedia Dreamweaver.
Macromedia Dreamweaver is the market-leading visual Web authoring product for professional Web developers. The Nokia WML Studio is the first solution that will enable Macromedia Dreamweaver developers to author Wireless Markup Language (WML) content for delivery to millions of Nokia wireless device customers.
The studio beta will be demonstrated and available at no charge at the Macromedia stand #408, Internet World UK 2000 in London. The beta is also available online on the Macromedia Exchange for Dreamweaver at exchange.macromedia.com.
"Macromedia's strength has always been in delivering technologies that empower developers to do incredible things, and the Dreamweaver objects in the Nokia WML Studio are no different," said Neil Wooding, Managing Director of strategic services for NetMaster Communications, Ltd., which provides mobile Internet consulting services to corporate and enterprise customers. "With the Nokia WML Studio and Macromedia Dreamweaver, our developers can create compelling WML applications at the quick pace required by the Internet."
The Nokia WML Studio for Macromedia Dreamweaver provides a way to visually author WML content with drag-and-drop objects. The studio provides developers with a preview of how WML content will appear on Nokia 7100 Series WAP-Enabled Phones. Without this solution, WML content is typically authored in text editors. These objects will enable the 500,000-strong Dreamweaver developer community to create new WML decks and cards, insert images, modify text, and implement anchors and styles within Macromedia Dreamweaver. The studio also includes a Macromedia Fireworks Xtra that provides the ability to create the smallest, high-quality image files for Nokia wireless devices. Macromedia Fireworks is the solution for professional Web graphics design and production.
"The mobile Internet is growing at an amazing rate and this product offers developers a way to quickly and easily create WAP-compliant content," said Monica Hamilton, Director, global strategic partnership program, Nokia. "Bringing WML capabilities to the most extensible Web authoring solution on the market ensures the largest number of professional developers can add WML output to their existing Internet and intranet sites."
"The Nokia WML Studio will result in compelling Web experiences for millions of wireless Web customers," said Kevin Lynch, Chief Technology Officer for Macromedia. "Our partnership with Nokia is a great example of how Macromedia Dreamweaver can be extended to deliver solutions and support standards as the Web rapidly evolves."
