Samsung develops miniature 16M SRAM for IMT-2000 Handsets

[This micro sized memory package combines SRAM and flash memory and is targeted toward future mobile handsets.]

Seoul -- "Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. said it has developed a 16Mb SRAM for IMT-2000 handsets.

"The company said it will release the product in June, and will kick off full production during the second quarter of 2000.

"The product has low electricity consumption and has a tape ball grid array packaging method which puts together an SRAM and flash memory chip, and reduces the size of the product simultaneously. The new SRAM is expected to take 34 percent of the overall SRAM market worldwide by the year 2001 and 48 percent by the year 2003.
