MobilCom sees no need for new UMTS partner now
Posted: 03-Jul-2000 [Source: Reuters]

[Only eight companies remain in contention for Germany's 3G spectrum licenses. The UMTS auction is scheduled to begin the end of July.]

Frankfurt -- "German telecoms operator MobilCom AG said on Monday it saw no need at present for a third party to join its bidding partnership with France Telecom for a German UMTS licence.

"A source close to the companies said earlier that MobilCom and Swisscom were in talks about teaming up for a joint UMTS licence bid in Germany. Swisscom declined comment on the report.

"But Mobilcom said in a statement that it would be open to partnerships with other companies if it was successful in winning one of the four to six German third generation mobile phone licences on offer.
