Brazil's UOL, Ericsson partner in mobile Internet

[A WAP portal will be opening this month in Brazil following a partnership between Ericsson and UOL.]

Sao Paulo -- "Brazilian Internet firm Universo Online and telecoms equipment maker Telefon AB L.M. Ericsson of Sweden said on Tuesday they agreed to join forces to develop mobile phone Internet services in Brazil.

"UOL, as Brazil's No. 1 Internet site and access provider is known, and Ericsson plan to jointly create an Internet portal specifically designed for clients wanting to access the Web over their mobile phones, the companies said in a statement.

"The portal will be based on WAP technology (Wireless Application Protocol), the latest cellular technology that permits cell users to surf the Web via their phone screens.
