[NTT and Sony have agreed to combine Playstation with iMode and to work together on Java based and 3G based Playstation combinations.]

Tokyo -- NTT DoCoMo, Inc. (NTT DoCoMo) and Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI, president Ken Kutaragi) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to jointly develop a new service that combines both NTT DoCoMo's i-mode service and SCEI's Playstation. Both firms hope their collaboration will inspire software makers to develop new services for a potential new i-mode/Playstation entertainment network.

Under the terms of their agreement, NTT DoCoMo and SCEI will jointly combine the following technologies:

1. Conventional i-mode phone and Playstation

2. Java enabled i-mode phone and Playstation

3. Next-generation mobile communications system (W-CDMA) and Playstation.

In addition, both companies will jointly develop an i-mode and Playstation connecting cable, which SCEI will manufacture and market. The specific content of the new service is still under consideration.
