Color WAP Microbrowser for PalmOS
Posted: 15-Aug-2000 [Source: EdgeMatrix]

Singapore -- EdgeMatrix (formerly known as The Edge Consultants) has today launched WAPman Color, the world's first color WAP microbrowser for the Palm OS; and simultaneously announces the release of Xgo, a mobile content personalization infrastructure.

WAPman Color - Lighting up wireless communications

The launch of WAPman Color for Palm OS is a triumphant World's First for EdgeMatrix.

Dinesh Bhatia, CEO of EdgeMatrix, said: "We always strive to be in the forefront of mobile technology. In 1999, we launched WAPman as one of the world's first WAP microbrowsers for PDAs (Personal Digital Assistants). As PDAs have evolved to feature color, we felt that it was important to invent a color version of our WAP microbrowser to support the Palm OS platform, which is the dominant OS for the PDA market. We are confident that WAPman Color would be as popular as the original WAPman. We aim to capture more than 70% of the PDA WAP browser market by 2001."

Like all other mobile devices, the PDA market is set to grow exponentially in the next few years. According to Jupiter Communications, there are 6.9 million PDA users in the world. This will grow to 12 million by the year 2003. Today, the Palm(tm)OS dominates more than 70% of the PDA market. PDAs with Palm(tm)OS include the Palm(tm) series, IBM, Handspring, TRGPro and Sony.

EdgeMatrix's WAPman is the most popular WAP browser for Palm(tm)OS PDAs in the world today. Since its launch, more than 100,000 WAPmans have been downloaded from EdgeMatrix's website (www.edgematrix.com) and the software is commonly featured in various popular Internet download sites for Palm software.

The Palm(tm)OS and Windows(r) versions of WAPman Color will be made freely downloadable from the EdgeMatrix website. WAPman Color is also available in other versions and for porting to other PDA platforms and OEM handsets.

Launch of Xgo

Today, EdgeMatrix also launched Xgo, a content personalization infrastructure that empowers Enterprises, Portals and Carriers to enhance customers' experience by allowing them to customize content for wireless devices. Xgo offers WAP users the ability to choose what is displayed to them from a ready-made menu of mobile content that can be accessed anytime, anywhere.

Designed for connectivity to any existing network infrastructure, it aims to remove the complexity of content and portal management, saves time and money and, best of all, there are no complicated programming or proprietary codes to learn. Users simply login to their account and customize their content preferences. Providers using this technology can instantly offer content-personalization to their end-users.
