Posted: 18-Oct-2000 [Source: Bloomberg]

["This lets people create portals in their garages," says 3G's chief executive.]

by Jane Baird, London -- "3G Lab, a U.K. technology startup, said it is offering free software to provide mobile phone users with easy access to Internet sites.

"Many cellular phone users now buy handsets that are preconfigured to dial numbers that access a limited group of Web sites. To get to other sites, they may have to make as many as 113 keystrokes. With 3G Lab's software, called Alligata, anyone can provide Web access for callers by sending a short-text message that will reset a phone to add another access number
