[The Wireless Data Forum and the Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association get ready for merger.]

Santa Clara, CA -- Today the Board of Directors of the Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association (CTIA), the leading wireless industry trade association, approved the acquisition of the Wireless Data Forum (WDF). This follows approval by the WDF Board of Directors at its October meeting. The formal transition is expected to be completed by December 31, 2000. David Sutcliffe, Chairman of WDF's Board, commented, "The WDF Board has approved and strongly recommends this exciting, new integration strategy. This is a natural evolutionary step forward for the WDF, CTIA and the broader mobile computing industry to take as we move from technical and marketing issues to include broader policy and industry challenges."

CTIA's President Tom Wheeler noted: "I applaud the work of the WDF. Its Board of Directors, membership and staff have done a great job of promoting the wireless Internet. As the doors close on our most successful Wireless I.T. show to date, one needs look no further to see the results of the synergy between CTIA and WDF and the future of the mobile Internet."

WDF began as a development group for cellular digital packet data (CDPD) technology and three years ago, working in cooperation with CTIA, refocused its efforts as a new, technology agnostic forum dedicated to wireless Internet evangelism and business development.

CTIA has grown in the last 16 years to encompass all facets of the wireless industry. Over the years CTIA's membership has evolved to include cellular, PCS, equipment suppliers and manufacturers, and now wireless Internet developers and providers.

David Sutcliffe, WDF's Chairman remarked, "I am proud of the work of the Wireless Data Forum, but new challenges lie ahead. This new partnership with CTIA is the next leap forward. I can't wait to see where it takes our industry."
