Ericsson says may cut handset portfolio
Posted: 20-Oct-2000 [Source: Reuters]

[Ericsson to shift handset focus to low end, but still plans to bring GPRS/Bluetooth handsets to the market in the fourth quarter.]

Stockholm -- "Sweden's Ericsson , the world's leading mobile networks maker, said that some of the mobile phone models it had promised may not come out on the market as part of a slimming of that division.

"All the models announced may not come to the market... but GPRS (Internet) phones including Bluetooth will come (to the market) in the fourth quarter as announced," Ericsson President Kurt Hellstrom told a conference call from New York.

"Today we will be more focused on stopping the bleeding of this (handset) business and get back to profit... that means we are going to phase out products that we planned earlier (to launch)."
