[Nokia announces the world's first professional WAP browser for TETRA.]

Nokia has introduced the world's first TETRA WAP browser for professional use, which brings powerful WAP applications to TETRA professional mobile radio networks. WAP over TETRA provides a new method of data communication for professionals. It enables real-time direct access to various customer and technical databases in only a few seconds.

The easy to use WAP browser will operate simply on a PC or laptop PC and gives easy access to new applications for professional TETRA users. Through combining the versatility of WAP with the power of TETRA, Nokia unveiled world's first WAP services for digital professional mobile radio users earlier this year. New WAP services are being developed in co-operation with several companies today.

Professional WAP browser supports TETRA short data SDS and TETRA IP packet data services. In support for new TETRA applications, Nokia can announce that more than 100 application development partners have joined a unique program which aims to provide a profitable method to launch TETRA applications.

The TWISP (TETRA Wireless Service Partner) program provides information on data services and interfaces in order for software houses to smoothly integrate new applications for TETRA networks.

Nokia's TETRA System has sophisticated APIs (Application Programming Interface) which offers easy application integration. Combined with TETRA IP operators have the opportunity for cost effective and fast application development. Applications are an essential part of TETRA usage and can help to meet the stringent needs of Public Safety and Security organisations.

TETRA networks offer secure, digital mobile communication for public safety and security organizations, transportation and utility companies. Nokia introduced the world's first live TETRA IP packet data and TETRA WAP networks for professional use.

Combining user requirements and Nokia's leading edge technology, the Nokia TETRA System offers a future proof solution for the next century. Since the system's functions are implemented by software, future developments and enhancements to the system can be easily introduced without disturbing the network. Radio users have a large choice of Nokia hand portable radios, mobile radios and accessories to suit different applications.
