With such a large volume of money to be made, the potential exists for an interesting battle between established and new vendors and analyst opinion is divided on the likely outcome."One of the major differences between GSM and UMTS is that third generation networks will emerge relatively quickly compared with their '2G' predecessors. This will create significant pressure on vendors such as Nokia, Motorola and Ericsson to fulfil multiple contracts within a short time and should enable other manufacturers to grab a decent slice of the action.
