by Vivian Chu -- "Hutchison Whampoa, Hong Kong's biggest conglomerate, said it would spend about 3 billion pounds ($4.4 billion) to build a third-generation (3G) mobile phone network in Britain, a published report said.

"A company spokeswoman was not immediately available for comment.

"The cost is at the low end of previous estimates given by Hutchison, which won a British 3G license for 4.4 billion pounds in April. It plans to roll out 3G services in Britain as early as July 2002, Reuters reported, citing analysts who attended a company meeting on Tuesday.
