Nokia and Unisys have signed a global agreement to co-operate in delivering network operation services to operators. This non-exclusive co-operation will reinforce Nokia's capability to support network operations.

As part of its unique Connecting@Care offering for existing GSM, GPRS and future 3G network operators, Nokia can provide a wide range of support services ranging from technical platform support to full outsourcing of network operations. Nokia can provide professional assistance with the emergence of new content-rich services in the crucial start-up period for 3G and advanced 2G networks.

Working with Nokia, Unisys will provide expert resources to support the development, management and optimisation of network operations for 3G and 2G. Nokia is committed to providing the first 3GPP standards compliant 3G networks with open interfaces in 2001, and as well as offering the fastest time to market for 3G, new 3G operators working with Nokia can keep their networks running at peak performance and secure their investments.

Nokia is committed to providing network operation services as operators increasingly outsource their functions in order to concentrate on strategic activities, such as launching new services to their customers. Connecting@Care offers operators easy access to various levels of support via the Nokia Care Packages. By combining Nokia's expertise with the skills of key partners such as Unisys, Nokia is able to offer right kind of support for all customers.

"In the era of 3G, time to market is crucial, with a need to get business up and running as quickly as possible. Nokia's Care Packages will help operators raise the quality, reliability and efficiency of their network operations, and in turn, their usage and revenues," says Matti Makkonen, Senior Vice President, Professional Services, Nokia Networks. "By working with partners such as Unisys, we have an edge in providing operating services to start up network operations, in complex 3G networks."

"As a worldwide leader in the Telecommunication industry for Value Added Services solutions, such as Universal Messaging and for Network services; it is in Unisys' strategy to offer mission critical solutions to operators. 3G brings new complexity and challenges in terms of Network operation and quality of services to be delivered. Unisys, by developing strong partnerships with key industry players such as Nokia, has an objective to deliver concrete value to operators by simplifying and securing their transition to 3G. Delivering a seamless services set results from taking the initiative to add Unisys' global capabilities and high skills competencies to Nokia ones, and investing in the sharing of industrial processes and experiences," says Robert le Duigou, Vice President, General Manager, Continental Europe, Unisys Communication Industry Group.

Nokia's 3G infrastructure is based on open standards, platforms and interfaces, critical for a smooth evolution to commercial 3G services in a multi-vendor network. It includes integrated end-to-end solutions covering charging, security, network management & service control applications.
