Japan's NTT DoCoMo plans New York listing
Posted: 22-Dec-2000 [Source: Financial Times]

[First operator to begin 3G needing additional funding and looks to New York.]

by Michiyo Nakamoto and Bayan Rahman, Tokyo -- NTT DoCoMo, Japan's leading mobile phone operator, is planning to issue new shares worth an estimated GBP1,000bn ($9bn) next month and is preparing to list in New York later next year.

The new share issue, which will be in the Japanese market, and New York listing are aimed at helping DoCoMo pursue its ambitious overseas strategy, which has led the company to take stakes in several foreign mobile carriers this year.

The new share issue plan comes amid a particularly turbulent market environment. Tokyo's benchmark Nikkei 225 stock average has lost 7.4 per cent since Monday. DoCoMo shares fell on Thursday to GBP2.1m, a 15-month closing low.
