by Joachim Bamrud -- "Although Latin America is lagging behind Europe and the United States in terms of Internet penetration, the wireless Internet is expected to explode in a region that has already seen a huge boom in wireless phones.

"While many Latin Americans like to follow the lead of the big neighbor to the North, fact is that when it comes to the wireless Internet the region is more likely to follow the examples of Southern Europe and Japan.

"Unlike the United States, these areas have seen relatively weak Internet penetration, but strong wireless phone usage due to various reasons. But in the case of Southern Europe one key factor has been the relatively high price for desktop PCs for average consumers. And that's the case as well in Latin America, where PC's have been selling like crazy, but are still out of reach for the majority of people.
