KT to introduce Qualcomm's fast data transmission
Posted: 02-Jan-2001 [Source: Korea Herald]

[Faster packet delivery to bring multimedia content to KT Freetel subscribers as it moves towards IMT-2000.]

"Korea Telecom Freetel plans to apply Qualcomm's High Data Rate (HDR) technology to its IS95-C or cdma2000 1x networks, officials said yesterday.

"HDR is a technology which sends data to Internet networks from cdma (code division multiple access) mobile telecom networks without passing through ground stations and switching boards. The technology raises data transmission speed to as high as 2.4 Mbps, allowing cellular phone users to enjoy moving images, email, Web surfing and e-commerce.

"The speed of handling packet data will be enhanced by applying HDR to cdma2000 1x networks, making it possible to offer multimedia contents via wireless Internet," said a KT Freetel official.
