MIC to give cdma2000 operator priority
Posted: 12-Jan-2001 [Source: Korea Herald]

[A cdma2000 operator still not found as W-CDMA grows in popularity and is now projected to obtain an 80% share of the IMT-2000 market.]

"An operator to be selected for the cdma(code division multiple access)-2000 mobile phone business will be given priority over W-CDMA (wide division multiple access) operators in choosing an identification number, the Ministry of Information and Communication said yesterday.

"The ministry also said the cdma2000 operator will be awarded a higher quality frequency range.

"Minister of Information and Communication Ahn Byung-yub said in an interview with the Yonhap News Agency that these measures were deemed necessary for a balanced development of the two competing modes for IMT-2000.
