Tokyo -- "Japanese electronics manufacturer NEC Corp said on Tuesday it was considering entering the fast-growing market for handheld personal computers and was aiming to release a wireless product as early as this summer.

"NEC, Japan's largest personal computer maker and the world's second largest chipmaker, said that the portable PCs, alternately called PDAs (personal digital assistants), would most likely have built-in wireless capability and be able to connect to the Internet without having to use a cell phone.

"At this stage, we are still considering entry into this market," said a spokesman for NEC. "We have no immediate plans for an announcement but hope to enter the market this summer or autumn."
