Study: Asian WAP Use Similar to U.S.

[Study shows 14 percent of mobile phones in the Asia-Pacific region are WAP-enabled with Nokia being the most popular brand.]

"Use of Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) wireless phones and applications is about as popular in the entire Asia-Pacific region as it is in the U.S., according to a study released Friday.

"The study by Taylor Nelson Sofres Interactive (TNSi) indicated that, throughout the Asia-Pacific region, 57 percent of adults have a mobile phone. However, only about 14 percent of those phones are WAP-enabled.

"Regionally, 34 percent of those who own WAP phones said they use it to access the Net. Only 17 percent of those who don't have Net-enabled phones said they were likely to buy one in the next year, the study found
