LGT talking with 3 foreign firms to form IMT-2000 consortium

by Shin Hye-son -- "LG Telecom (LGT) is negotiating with three foreign CDMA (code division multiple access) operators to form a consortium to bid for the cdma2000 standard IMT-2000, or 3G (generation), license, industry sources said yesterday. The three foreign companies are reported to be Verizon of the United States, TIW of Canada and KDDI of Japan.

"According to the sources, LGT selected these three companies and is trying to draw them into the IMT-2000 consortium as part of a global strategy to be waged after it obtains the right to deploy 3G networks in Korea.

"They have yet to reach an agreement on specific equity investments in the consortium, the sources said.
