NTT DoCoMo plans to list on New York Stock Exchange
Posted: 14-Jun-2001 [Source: Financial Times]

[NTT DoCoMo plans to join a very small number of Japanese companies that have listed on the NYSE.]

by Michiyo Nakamoto, Tokyo and Alison Beard, New York -- "NTT DoCoMo, Japan's dominant mobile phone operator, plans to list on the New York Stock Exchange in September, launching what is expected to be one of the most heavily traded American Depositary Receipt programmes by a Japanese company.

"This will increase DoCoMo's funding options if it decides to invest further in the US or increase its investment in AT&T Wireless, in which it has a 16 per cent stake. In the past year, DoCoMo has raised concerns by making a string of overseas acquisitions worth Y1,800bn ($14.9bn).

"The move will also help DoCoMo raise its profile in the US, where it plans a mobile internet service, similar to i-mode, with AT&T Wireless.
