Ericsson principal WCDMA supplier to Hutchison

[Hutchinson targeting late 2002 or early 2003 to launch its 3G network in Australia.]

Ericsson has been selected as the principal supplier for Hutchison Telecoms' 3G network in Australia. The contract price is approximately USD 435 million (AUD 830 million) and is Ericsson's first 3G contract in Australasia and 32 WCDMA commercial agreement so far for Ericsson globally.

Ericsson will provide a 3G network including radio access network, IP core network and transmission technologies. Also included are advanced network management systems, network operations, mobile Internet application platforms and terminals. Motorola will provide its radio access network (RAN) in the Sydney and Brisbane license areas.

The network will be rolled out for a staged commercial launch end 2002 early 2003.
