Posted: 03-Aug-2001 [Source: The Korea Herald]

[LG moves primary focus away from CDMA handsets in an attempt to diversify into the European GSM market with its introduction of the WAP-enabled LG-500 handset in Italy.]

"LG Electronics, a major electronics maker in Korea, yesterday said it has introduced two of its most recent mobile phone models in Italy as an initial step to promote its GSM phones in Europe.

"The company (www.lge.com) said it has recently shipped 10,000 units of the mobile phone to LG Electronics Italia S.P.A. (LGEIS), marking the debut of its GSM phones in Europe.

"The move is part of the company's efforts to cement a foothold in the European market where Nokia, Ericsson and Motorola have long dominated the GSM wireless phone market.
