Ramsey, NJ -- Bogen Communications International, Inc. (NASDAQ: BOGN) ("Bogen") today announced that its wholly-owned Speech Design subsidiary has provided Deutsche Telekom AG (NYSE: DT) with a platform to deliver mobile SMS (Short Message Services) to any fixed-line telephone.
The service enables the hugely popular SMS messages, previously only viewable on a mobile phone's screen, to be received by traditional, fixed-line telephones. When a mobile user sends a message to a non-mobile number, it is recognized automatically by the network and routed to Deutsche Telekom's new SMS-to-voice platform, based on Speech Design's Thor system. Thor calls the fixed-line number and reads the message using text-to-speech technology.
As announced earlier this year, Deutsche Telekom, Europe's largest telecommunications company, has selected Speech Design's Thor platform as the basis of its next-generation messaging offerings. The innovative SMS-to-voice service is the third added-value messaging product launched under this cooperation (the other installations being Deutsche Telekom's Vanity Number Service and T-Net-Box services, offering customers unified access to voicemail, email, and faxes from any location).
Kasimir Arciszewski, Speech Design's Managing Director and Jan Martens, Managing Director of Speech Design's Carrier Systems division, jointly stated, "We are extremely happy with the development of our strategic Deutsche Telekom relationship. The Thor platform has proven itself not only as a robust and scalable unified messaging system, but also as a flexible architecture for other enhanced services that enable innovative carriers to generate additional revenue streams. Having launched three commercial services with Deutsche Telekom in a short time frame further strengthens our credentials in the carrier marketplace. The SMS-to-voice service is particularly attractive since it rides the SMS success wave and combines easy deployment in existing networks with a quick return on investment."
Bogen Communications International, Inc., based in Ramsey, New Jersey and Munich, Germany, develops, manufactures, and markets telecommunications peripherals, sound processing equipment, and Unified Messaging products and services. Bogen's products are sold to commercial, industrial, professional and institutional customers worldwide.
