LG Telecom wins Korean final 3G license

by Yang Sung-jin -- "Ending eight months of speculation, LG Telecom, the country's smallest mobile carrier, finally won the third-generation (3G) wireless license based on the cdma2000 standard, promoted by U.S.-based wireless technology firm Qualcomm Inc.

"The Ministry of Information and Communication announced Saturday that it has granted the third and final 3G license to a consortium led by LG Telecom, the sole candidate.

"LG Telecom leads a consortium of 1,049 companies, including broadband access provider Hanaro Telecom Inc., fixed-line carrier Dacom Corp., broadband infrastructure provider Powercomm, and high-speed Internet provider Thrunet.
