NEC President Predicts Integration of Broadband, Mobile Networks

[Koji Nishigaki, president of NEC Corp., gives keynote address titled "Society Explored by Broadband & Mobile Networks" at World PC Expo 2001 going on currently in Tokyo.]

"Koji Nishigaki, president of NEC Corp., said that broadband and mobile networks will be integrated in the future.

"He made the comment in a keynote speech at World PC Expo 2001 titled, "iSociety Explored by Broadband & Mobile Networks."

"In his speech, Nishigaki defined "Broadband and Mobile Networks" as an availability of expressive, rich contents regardless of the time and location. In his definition, broadband networks mean a network environment where the heaviest application can run smoothly. Current broadband networks and mobile networks such as cellular phone systems are different networks, but Nishigaki predicted these two will be integrated some day. He said with the introduction of IPv6, it will be possible to unify the IP addresses.
