[M1's CEO says basestations ready with rollout contingent upon finalisation of standards and availability of handsets.]

by Soo Hwee Peh, Singapore -- "MobileOne Asia Pte Ltd (M1), Singapore's second-biggest cellular operator, said on Wednesday it expects to see trial third-generation (3G) services at the end of 2002 but was silent on its search for new shareholders.

"We have some plans for regional development," chief executive officer Neil Montefiore told reporters on the sidelines of the launch of M1's S$8 million ($4.44 million) facility for the testing of 2.5G and 3G applications.

"While we have our current shareholder situation, it's very difficult to execute those plans, so they're on hold for the moment."
