[Joint venture to be named Shanghai Bell Samsung Mobile Communications Co., Ltd.]

by Eleanor Yeung, Hong Kong -- "Shanghai Bell Co. and Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. recently obtained official government approval to establish a CDMA system joint venture in China.

"The JV company's name will be Shanghai Bell Samsung Mobile Communications Co., Ltd. The ownership will be 51:49 for Shanghai Bell and Samsung Electronics, respectively.

"The JV is expected to contribute to Chinese regional governments' CDMA-related projects.

"Initial paid-in capital will be US$12 million, while a total of US$29 million will be invested in for development, production and marketing for the CDMA system.
