Vodafone To Launch GPRS Modem Service
Posted: 29-Nov-2001 [Source: BWCS]

[Vodafone soon to launch a GPRS-based Mobile Internet Access service for laptops.]

"Vodafone is on the verge of launching a GRPS-based wireless internet access service for mobile computer users. The Mobile Internet Access service will enable GPRS subscribers to access the internet from a laptop and in the future handheld PC by using their mobile handset as a modem. Vodafone will this weekend begin giving away free Mobile Internet Access PC software to its GPRS customers. The operator is hoping that mobile computing users will boost data traffic on its GPRS network. At 28.8kbps average GPRS data rates are somewhat slower than PSTN internet access but they represent a huge improvement on the 9.6kbps available via second generation GSM networks.
