Beijing -- "A mobile phone joint venture based in Nanjing, the capital of East China's Jiangsu province, will be established by Toshiba Corp. and Nanjing PTIC (or Nanjing Putian), according to Katsufumi Nomura, a spokesman for Toshiba.

"Toshiba of Japan will move more of its business to China, while Japan's domestic market continues to slow down.

"The joint venture factory will begin operation early next year. Currently in the final construction phase, it aims to produce 500,000 units of mobile phones for the Chinese market in 2002, said Nomura. Nomura refused to disclose how much Toshiba and PTIC had invested in the joint venture.
