Beijing -- "China Unicom is making final preparations for the nation's first nationwide code division multiple access (CDMA) telecom network.

"The network switching of the original 600,000 CDMA customers has started, according to Lu Jianguo, vice-president of the company.

"About 600,000 customers had earlier adopted CDMA services provided by the military-backed Great Wall Telecom. The network will be shut down by the end of next year and give way to Unicom's new CDMA network.
