"German mobile operator Viag Interkom has launched its prepaid service for GPRS using a Nokia solution for processing charging data, opening up for more flexible micropayments.

"Prepaid mobile phone services, be it for calling or sending SMS messages, have grown immensely popular - particularly among youths. Prepaid, however, is also going to play a major role in the future with GPRS networks having been rolled out in most European countries and being in the process of being rolled out in the Americas. Why? The key word is micropayments, and Viag Interkom has as one of the first operators in the world expanded prepaid offerings to GPRS users.
