Seven Groups Bid for Five 3G Licenses in Taiwan Posted: 20-Dec-2001 [Source: Commercial Times via AsiaBizTech] [3G services in Taiwan expected to launch the first quarter of 2003.] Taipei -- "With applications now being invited for five third-generation telecommunications licenses, seven bidders instead of the expected five have come forward, dashing earlier hopes that each license could be obtained at its floor price."First International Computer (FIC) Group and Teco Electric & Machinery have decided to bid jointly under the name Three-GO Telecommunication Corp., Ltd. Three-GO Telecommunication is a recently established subsidiary of FIC, set up specifically to bid for the 3G license. "U.S.-based Qualcomm Inc. is the main shareholder in the new company, owning a 15-percent stake, and Teco Electric also decided to join the company, as this looked like the best way of assuring it gets a 3G license.
