Plug-In to Boost Features of Mobile Terminals to be Ready in Mid-2002

[The "UIEngine" system described as a mobile version of plug-in software like "Real Player" used for PCs.]

Tokyo -- "UI Evolution Inc., a U.S.-based software technology developer, says it plans to start shipping its "UIEngine" plug-in system, which is to make better use of the user interface features of mobile phones and personal digital assistants, around the middle of 2002.

"Compared with current software for mobile devices, such as Java used in mobile phones, UIEngine can enable building large applications, and will allow a mobile terminal to handle several applications at the same time. Application management also will become easier, as there is no need for preparing different versions to be compatible with the different terminals in use.

"UIEngine is like a mobile version of plug-in software like "Real Player" that is used in PCs. It is easy to see how the system works if you compare it with existing Java software, such as i-Appli, designed for mobile phones.
