Anti-Theft Car System That Notifies Owner Via E-Mail to Handset

[Anti-car theft system to be available in February in Japan using GPS and e-mail to notify owner and track vehicles whereabouts.]

Tokyo -- "Sogo Keibi Hosho Co., Ltd. (SOK) and Omron Corp. have developed an anti-theft car security system which can be operated by the owner's cellular phone. They plan to commercialize the system in early February.

"The system operates using a car-mounted device with a global positioning system (GPS) antenna, and it has a function to send data using a packet communication service. When thieves start an engine, or open car doors or trunks after the anti-theft car system is in operation, the car-mounted device will send an e-mail to the car owner's cellular phone. Locating the car using the GPS, SOK will rush security agents to the scene.

"The car owners can also take measures by blowing the horn or turning on the hazard lights using their cellular phone. The equipment for the system will be set at 49,800 yen and its monthly fee between 2,200-2,400 yen. (131.15 yen = US$1)
