[Survey finds airline tickets, train tickets and hotel reservations topping the list of M-purchases in Japan.]
by Katsuhiko Sasada, Tokyo -- "As many as 32.4 percent of people have turned out to be interested in online shopping using mobile phones, a Nikkei NetBusiness survey found.
"The bi-annual Internet Active User survey also found that 18.0 percent of the users have already shopped more than 10 times using their mobile phone.
"Goods purchased through online shopping as a whole typically include books and magazines, food, PCs, and clothing. But examining purchases only through mobile phones revealed that online reservations for air tickets, train tickets and hotels came at the top, leaving others behind (see chart, latest purchase of online shopping using mobile handsets).
"The survey was conducted for two weeks between "Nov. 20 and Dec. 4, 2001, by running a questionnaire page containing a total of 55 questions on Nikkei NetBusiness magazine's Web site . The total number of answers provided during the period was 16,902, among which the number of valid answers reached 16,699. The survey had been conducted semi-annually since the first survey in December 1995, and this survey was the 13th.
