Posted: 04-Feb-2002 [Source: The Korea Herald]

[KT's wireless LAN service, Nespot, debuts the same day rival carrier Hanaro launches their wireless LAN service, HanaFos AnyWay.]

by Yang Sung-jin -- "KT Corp. and Hanaro Telecom Inc. launched commercial wireless LAN services yesterday, opening a new chapter in the country's rapidly evolving high-speed Internet market.

"Wireless LAN services are expected to spur the growth of new broadband markets outside of the home and office, analysts said.

"Subscribers can log on to the Internet at a maximum speed of 11Mbps through their notebook PCs and personal digital assistants (PDAs). Depending on the service packages, users can access the wireless LAN network in limited or extended areas.

"Wireless LAN is a technology aimed at allowing users to hook up to the Internet network over a wireless modem in certain areas such as schools, airports and hotels.
