Posted: 11-Feb-2002 [Source: AsiaBizTech]

[The number of color LCD makers has jumped to over ten with expectations over half of mobile handsets will have color displays within a few years.]

by Toshiaki Hidaka, Tokyo -- "A mobile phone has advanced to be capable of displaying moving images with a 260,000-color, liquid-crystal display, marking the advent of the "mobile movie phone" era.

"Mobile phones now are creating another new market as mobile entertainment terminals.

"As the component technology supporting mobile movies on the phone, the color LCD panel market for mobile phones remains intensely competitive. The next year or two appear to be when the peak of the competition will occur.

"The evolution of the speakers also is continuing. A twin-speaker model with a stereo effect employing 3D sound technology is due to be launched soon.
