Sony Ericsson today announces a series of partnerships, which complement Sony Ericsson's strong commitment to offer a broad and attractive gaming portfolio across its product line for 2002. The partnerships with iFone and Synergenix will result in fully featured downloadable games, which will be offered to operators for download from their portals, but also for immediate download from Sony Ericsson's mobile Internet portal as a virtual extension of the phones.
iFone offers premium branded downloadable games from its extensive catalogue, such as the classic Atari-titles Asteroids, Breakout and the Hasbro range of titles such as and Battleship and many more. Synergenix provides an optimized gaming platform, mophun virtual machine, enabling fully-featured downloadable games for Sony Ericsson mobile phones.
The downloadable games portfolio will be available for Sony Ericsson products during 2002. These color games are for enthusiastic gamers who are seeking more mobile fun and thrills or the casual gamers who are just killing time. The games are optimized for Sony Ericsson phones and will heighten the consumer experience and add value to the products.
As in initial offering classic games, such as Poker and Black Jack, will be made available for download via Sony Ericsson's mobile Internet as a virtual extension of the product, while games with well-known brands, such as the classic range from Atari, will be offered to Sony Ericsson's operator customers to be made available through their portals as premium content.
"Sony Ericsson's partnership with iFone and Synergenix demonstrates our ambition to be a leading player in the mobile entertainment arena by delivering a gaming solution that has consumer focus and at the same time offers our operator customers revenue generating possibilities," says Anil Raj, Corporate Vice President at Sony Ericsson.
Developments in the mobile phone industry such as color screens and polyphonic sounds have made it possible to create a good gaming experience on a mobile platform. Sony Ericsson has launched several products with color screens and the recently announced Z700 also features two embedded games, Men in Black and Charlie's Angels, both courtesy of Sony Pictures Digital Entertainment. A strategic partnership with the Sony Group's content companies, Sony Pictures Digital Entertainment, Sony Music Entertainment and Sony Digital Entertainment will result in premium content for Sony Ericsson's mobile phones.
